Yves Tumor has shared a new video statement after he was booed offstage while opening for Swedish House Mafia last night.
The show, held at New York’s Arthur Ashe Stadium on September 11th, saw the group become the first-ever electronic headliner at the 23,000-capacity venue. However, multiple videos uploaded by fans and Yves Tumor himself indicated that the experimental rocker’s opening set did not enthuse the crowd.
“I just got booed offstage for playing the best set of the night by a bunch of the corniest people I’ve ever seen in my fucking life,” Yves Tumor, AKA Sean Lee Bowie, shared in a since-deleted Instagram story, filmed while dismantling a poster of New York. “This city is truly hell on earth. I thought LA was bad. I thought Berlin was bad. I thought Paris was bad. Berlin is definitely worse, but fuck!”
After sharing the video, Bowie also posted a number of stories featuring DMs from Swedish House Mafia fans further criticising his set. One screenshot, however, reflected some positive feedback: a message apparently sent by Swedish House Mafia tour designer Alexander Wessely, who reassured Bowie: “You killed it…me and the guys loved it.”
Swedish House Mafia has not issued a statement on the incident as of this writing.
