The Giants have claimed wide receiver and kick returner Xavier Gipson off waivers. In a corresponding move, inside linebacker Micah McFadden has been placed on injured reserve.
Gipson played in 35 games after signing with the Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2023. The 24-year-old has returned 68 punts for 604 yards (8.9 avg.) and a touchdown to go with 44 kickoff returns for 1,142 yards (26.0 avg.).
As a rookie, Gipson was on the field for 45 percent of the Jets’ offensive snaps and finished with 21 receptions for 221 yards, in addition to eight rush attempts for 68 yards and a touchdown.
Prior to the NFL, Gipson played at Stephen F. Austin State, where he was named second-team all-conference as a wide receiver and third-team all-conference as a kick returner in 2019. He registered 243 receptions for 4,305 yards and 37 touchdowns across 44 games in college, along with four total return touchdowns.
McFadden suffered a foot injury during Sunday’s season opener in Washington. The fourth-year linebacker had three tackles (two solo) and a quarterback hit prior to the injury.
