One of the highlights of Google’s Pixel 10 launch was Pixelsnap, a new line of MagSafe-style accessories that promised to bring magnetic modularity to the Pixel ecosystem without the need for a special case. But just a few weeks in, early adopters are discovering that Google’s first attempt at magnetic add-ons may not be as polished as it looked on stage. Reports across Reddit (some pointed out by 9to5Google) and Google’s support forums suggest the Pixelsnap Ring Stand is shaping up to be a trouble spot.
Early reports of faulty fasteners
A frustrating situation for a brand-new accessory
So far, we haven’t seen any reports of the actual Pixelsnap charger malfunctioning.
The most visible issue starts with the screws that hold the Ring Stand’s hinge together. Multiple owners report they’re simply working themselves loose. Several users say the problem surfaced within days of unboxing. One Pixel 10 Pro owner claimed their stand became unusable after just 48 hours, while another described screws falling out entirely, only to end up trapped between the accessory and case, leaving small scratches behind. The two screws are critical, providing the tension needed to keep the phone upright or steady in hand. Without them, the stand is just a floppy metal loop.
Some have managed a temporary fix with a precision Torx driver (T2 appears to be the right size), though not everybody has a set of Torx bits lying around. That makes it difficult for most users to do their own repairs, and replacement options remain limited.
Detach the Pixelsnap Ring Stand before using Qi charging
Loose screws may not be the biggest headache. Users charging their phones wirelessly while the Ring Stand is attached report dangerously high temperatures, in some cases hot enough to burn skin. A Pixel 10 Pro owner who left their phone on Google’s own Pixel Stand 2 overnight said it was “like touching the side of a kettle” the next morning. Others chimed in with similar complaints: chargers throttling mid-cycle, batteries capped at 80% or lower, and in extreme cases, accessories failing altogether.
This behavior isn’t entirely unexpected — Google’s own support pages warn against placing metallic objects between the charger and phone — but Pixelsnap’s marketing didn’t make the incompatibility obvious. Many assumed the first-party stand would play nice with the first-party charger. Instead, it seems users must choose: charge, or use the stand, but not both.
Complicating matters further, Pixel 10 devices themselves appear to run hotter than the Pixel 8 and 9 during wireless charging, even without accessories attached. Reports describe inconsistent performance across different chargers, from third-party Qi2 pads to Google’s official stand, suggesting that both hardware and software may need tuning.
For now, the best advice is to skip overnight wireless charging with a Pixelsnap accessory attached. Google hasn’t issued an official statement yet, but with hardware defects stacking on top of software inconsistencies, it’s clear the Pixelsnap experiment isn’t snapping into place as cleanly as the company hoped. Maybe Google could have made it more clear the stand isn’t compatible with wireless charging. Maybe it could have disabled the charging entirely while the stand is attached. Either way, we’ll be sure to update when Google inevitably clarifies what’s going on.
