Patricia Arquette and Jason Clarke play a Southern couple with a lot of secrets in the upcoming Hulu drama “Murdaugh: Death in the Family,” inspired by the true-crime sensation “Murdaugh Murders” podcast.
The eight-episode series premieres on Hulu on Oct. 15 with a three-episode drop. New episodes will premiere on Wednesdays after that, leading up to the Nov. 19 season finale.
“Murdaugh: Death in the Family” follows Maggie (Arquette) and Alex (Clarke), a rich and powerful South Carolina couple whose family runs a legal dynasty. When their son Paul (Johnny Berchtold) is involved in a fatal boat accident, the Murdaughs are faced with a challenge, as their connections to several mysterious deaths raise questions about their family.
“These Murdaugh men, you have to sacrifice a lot of things to make them the men that you know that they can be,” Arquette says in the trailer.
Will Harrison plays Paul’s brother Buster Murdaugh, Brittany Snow plays investigative journalist Mandy Matney and J. Smith-Cameron plays Maggie’s sister, Marian Proctor. Gerald McRaney and Noah Emmerich also star in the series.
“Murdaugh: Death in the Family” hails from Michael D. Fuller (“Quarry,” “Rectify” and “Locke & Key”) and co-creator Erin Lee Carr (“Britney vs Spears,” “I Love You, Now Die” and “Mommy Dead and Dearest”). Executive producers include Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund for Eat the Cat alongside Mandy Matney, David Moses, Bill Johnson and Steven Piet, who also directed three episodes. Arquette and Clarke also serve as executive producers. UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.
