OnePlus teases ‘ultra-high’ refresh rate display for upcoming OnePlus 15

The Apple iPhone 17 series phones come with a handful of upgrades over their predecessors. In particular, the base model now finally has a 120 Hz refresh rate display, a big upgrade when compared to the 60 Hz panel found in the last-gen non-Pro phone.

Noting the shift in terms of the display on the base iPhone 17, Li Jie Louis, OnePlus’s president, has hinted that the upcoming OnePlus 15 will feature an “ultra-high” refresh rate display. For reference, the company’s current-gen Snapdragon 8 Elite flagship sports a 120 Hz panel.

While Li Jie Louis didn’t specifically reveal anything, per recent reports, the OnePlus 15 is expected to sport a 165 Hz refresh rate. Of course, this wouldn’t be a first for smartphones, as there are phones that come with displays with even higher refresh rates.

For example, the Asus ROG Phone 9 series has phones with 185 Hz refresh rate displays. However, it’s worth noting that most of the other non-gaming Chinese flagship phones have been sticking with 120 Hz screens, and Li Jie notes that the “ultra-high” refresh rate display of the OnePlus 15 will start a new trend in the industry.

As for the other specs of the phone, the OnePlus 15 is expected to feature the next-gen flagship SoC from Qualcomm, which is rumored to be called Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The company recently confirmed that the phone will feature a new camera engine, called DetailMax, which would mark the end of OnePlus’s partnership with Hasselblad for its flagship phones.

A recent report has also suggested that the upcoming OnePlus flagship will sport a larger battery while being lighter than the predecessor (16/512 GB curr. $929.99 on Amazon). The company is expected to share more details of the phone through future teasers.
