The Rock is shedding weight for an interesting film role.
Last week, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson made headlines after he arrived at the Venice International Film Festival looking much leaner than fans are used to. Fans speculated the reason for his new look, and he has now confirmed the reason for slimming down.
Johnson was on hand at the Toronto International Film Festival on Monday, where his new film, The Smashing Machine, will screen. Johnson spoke about another project he has in the works called Lizard Music.
The Rock is becoming The Chicken Man
According to Variety, the film is an adaptation of a Daniel Pinkwater novel that tells the story of “a septuagenarian whose best friend is a 70-year-old chicken.” Johnson will play a “whimsical, eccentric 70-something year-old” called Chicken Man. Benny Safdie, his director on The Smashing Machine, will also return to direct him in Lizard Music.
“Benny pitched me this after,” Johnson said during his appearance at the Toronto Film Festival on Monday. “And after about 45 minutes, this pitch ended and I said, ‘I am your Chicken Man.’”
The Rock has lost most of the 30 pounds he gained to play MMA legend Mark Kerr in The Smashing Machine. However, he says he’s still not done yet.
“I still have a long ways to go,” The Rock added. “I’m so excited to get a chance to hopefully transform again like I was able to do in ‘Smashing Machine.’ [It means] eating less chicken.”
After finishing up on the film festival circuit, The Smashing Machine will release in theatres on October 3, 2025.
