A Buffalo Bills fan who shoved Baltimore Ravens players was banned Monday from attending all NFL games as well as NFL events such as the Super Bowl, draft and combine, a league spokesperson confirmed to NBC News.
After Baltimore scored a touchdown late in the third quarter of Sunday’s season-opening loss to Buffalo, Ravens players were close to a low wall separating the field of play from the stands of Highmark Stadium when a fan reached over and shoved the helmet of receiver DeAndre Hopkins, and then quarterback Lamar Jackson.
Jackson shoved back with both hands. No penalty was issued during the game, and the league has not yet issued discipline to the two-time league Most Valuable Player.
Jackson said he had seen the fan push Hopkins, “then he slapped me and he was talking, so I just forgot where I was for a little bit. You’ve got to think in those situations. You’ve got security out there, let security handle it. I let my emotions get the best of me. Hopefully it won’t happen again.”
The NFL, in a statement, said “any fan that engages in unruly and disruptive behavior will lose the privilege of attending NFL games. Penalties can include ejection, banishment from NFL games and events, and legal action.”
Buffalo ultimately prevailed, 41-40, after a game-winning field goal as time expired.
