Netflix has renewed comedy Leanne, co-created, executive produced and headlined by comedian Leanne Morgan, for a second season.
The series, co-created and executive produced by Chuck Lorre, premiered July 31 and spent two weeks in Netflix’s global Top 10 for English-language series, peaking at No. 6 with 2.8M views, and also charted for two weeks in the U.S. Top 10.
That is below Netflix’s typical renewal threshold — for instance, freshman drama The Waterfront spent five weeks in the global Top 10, including a rare three-peat at No.1, peaking at 11.6M views for its first full week of release, and it still got canceled.
But Leanne is a rare original streaming multi-camera comedy. That is a genre that has proven very hard for streamers to crack — including Netflix, which has had only three sitcoms go the distance so far: The Ranch, Fuller House and The Upshaws.

Multi-cam sitcoms often take longer to find an audience. But they are also cheaper to produce than single-camera comedies and dramas. Since Netflix’s renewals usually are based on cost vs. performance, multi-cams’ lower cost also lowers the performance-level target.
There are additional factors too. Leanne garnered positive reviews from critics (71% on Rotten Tomatoes), scoring even higher with fans (88% on the platform). And it is a starring vehicle for a Netflix comedy star in Morgan who had a hit with her 2023 special I’m Every Woman that landed her a deal with the streamer for two more specials. The first, Unspeakable Things, premieres November 4.
Leanne comes from Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. In Season 1, Leanne’s (Morgan) world is turned upside down when her husband of 33 years unexpectedly leaves her for another woman. Supported by her family, including her ride-or-die sister Carol (Kristen Johnston), Leanne learns to embrace the chaos and finds strength, laughter and hope in the most unexpected places.
Celia Weston, Blake Clark, Ryan Stiles, Graham Rogers and Hannah Pilkes also star. Leanne is co-created and executive produced by Susan McMartin, Lorre and Morgan. Nick Bakay and Judi Marmel also serve as executive producers.
