Hollow Knight: Silksong Has The Most Evil Fakeout: A Fake Bench

A hidden trap in one of the game’s hardest levels is claiming victims left and right

When you’re playing a game as tough as Hollow Knight: Silksong, you cherish any moment of respite you can find. In Silksong, you can rest at benches that function as both healing stations and checkpoints, and if you’ve just gone through a particularly challenging boss fight or platforming section, you’re probably anxiously searching for one of these seats just so you can chill out for a second before you head back into the trenches. Team Cherry knows this, and it has led to one of Silksong’s most clippable trolling moments.

Spoiler Warning

Hunter’s March is one of the more difficult areas in Silksong, and part of that is because the hellish level is severely lacking in benches. So if you die to a powerful enemy or tricky platforming section, you’re likely to get sent back pretty damn far. However, there is one bench that’s tucked away in a corner of the map that offers a moment’s rest…but it’s actually rigged with a spiked trap that will absolutely kill you if you sit down on it without taking the proper precautions. That’s some evil, sadistic shit on Team Cherry’s part, but at least we can get plenty of entertainment from watching people joyfully trot over to the seat only to be hit with the devastating realization that it was all a ruse.

However, if you survive being impaled by the trap, or don’t sit down on the bench right away, you can disarm the whole thing by walking over to the left side of the bench and breaking a lever that triggers the whole thing. Then it can function like a real bench.

Sorry to anyone who, unfortunately, went in blind and found themselves on the wrong end of a spike trap. But also, thank you for your service because your reactions are fueling me this morning.
