It’s 2025 and shapewear is no longer merely something to wear under your clothes—it can also be something to show off, too. Just take Sydney Sweeney‘s latest look that puts the boning of her corset front and center.
Stepping out for the Variety Studio during the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6 to promote her film Christy, the actress wore an unusual gray tweed suit. Styled by Molly Dickson, the blazer of the suit featured a deep plunging neckline that was held together with a twist below the bust and then wrapped around her back, revealing a fully exposed sheer corset detail around her midriff. She paired the optical illusion top with matching low-rise pants.

Sweeney completed the look with long bouncy blonde bombshell hair, while she kept her jewelry to a minimum to show off her unusual outfit.

Sweeney has been a real champion of the corset in recent months. On September 5, she wore another corseted look for the TIFF premiere of Christy—this time, a blush pink Erdem gown with an exposed hip. In August, she rocked a butter yellow corseted gown with a matching thick headband. A few months earlier, she wore a corseted black gown to an event during the three-day wedding of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez.
And Sweeney isn’t the only one playing with the boundaries of the corset. Heidi Klum and her daughter Leni recently wore matching sheer corsets. Sofia Vergara wore a sheer lace corset top with jeans. Kylie Jenner wore a sheer black exposed corset to the Met Gala. Rihanna also exposed her corset at the Met Gala while she showed off her new baby bump.

Sweeney stars as the titular character in Christy, a biopic about the famous wrestler Christy Martin. It’s a role that saw her changing her look, from her hair to her physicality. “I trained two to three times a day, every day, and then while I was filming, I trained, as well,” said Sweeney to the audience at the TIFF premiere, per The Hollywood Reporter, adding, “It was incredible being able to completely embody such a powerful woman.”
