Crash near college campus kills 2 lacrosse players, one from Upstate NY

Milwaukee, WI – A Marquette University lacrosse player from Upstate New York was killed in a two-car crash Friday evening that also took the life of a teammate.

Noah Snyder, 20, of Irving, a community south of Buffalo, was killed in the collision at approximately 5 p.m. near Marquette’s campus in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Snyder, a member of the Seneca Nation, also was a member of the Haudenosaunee Nationals U20 team.

“Noah demonstrated dedication to his sport, a strong sense of responsibility toward his teams, and genuine respect for his heritage,” the team posted. “He represented the values and traditions of the Haudenosaunee with grace and dignity.”

He played at the World Lacrosse Men’s U20 Championship on Jeju Island, Korea, where he recorded five goals and three assists in six games, helping the team to a fourth-place finish.

Snyder also played for the Rochester Jr. Knighthawks of the National Lacrosse League.

At Marquette, the sophomore attackman played in 13 games last season, with three starts in the midfield. He had nine goals and seven assists and was named to the Big East All-Academic Team.

Snyder played high school lacrosse at the Westtown School in West Chester, Pennsylvania, according to USA Lacrosse Magazine.

The other player killed was Scott Michaud, 19, of Springboro, Ohio, according to the university. Four other students were injured.

“Noah and Scott’s lives were taken too soon and we share in the heartbreak of their teammates, coaches and those who knew them personally,” Marquette University President Dr. Kimo Ah Yun said in a statement posted to Facebook.

A 41-year-old driver who collided with the vehicle carrying the students at North 27th Street and West St. Paul Avenue has been arrested by Milwaukee police, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. No charges were filed as of Saturday, pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
