Family and friends are mourning the loss of two mothers who were killed in a car crash after a criminal hit them while fleeing Minneapolis police on Thursday morning.
Marisa Casebolt, 25, and Liberty Borg, 25, and Borg’s 6-year-old son were in the car at the time of the crash, authorities said.
Casebolt and Borg were pronounced dead at the scene.
Borg’s child suffered two broken legs and a traumatic brain injury, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
5 EYEWITNESS NEWS heard from family members of Casebolt, who explained they’re still processing the devastating event.
“My heart broke. I just couldn’t believe it, those poor children. Both families, my heart goes out to them. It’s just a horrible incident that should have never happened,” Kelly Mestas, who knew Casebolt, said.
Mestas crossed paths with Casebolt during her teenage years, following her journey as she grew up.
“I had the opportunity to hire her as a teenager, and she was a bright young lady, always smiling,” Mestas said. “I had the opportunity to watch her grow into a young, beautiful woman and a mother of two small children.”
Casebolt is survived by her partner and two young children.
Casebolt’s sister, Blaze, posted a GoFundMe to help support the father of the kids with funeral expenses and caring for the children.
In the GoFundMe, Blaze wrote “It is extremely unfortunate, unfair and with the utmost sadness, two innocent young mothers lives were needlessly and unjustly taken…”
The fundraiser went on to say that Marisa was a loving mother and her babies were the most important thing to her in the world.
5 EYEWITNESS NEWS tried to get in touch with the family of Borg, but were unsuccessful. On social media, there was an outpouring of love and grief as people navigate this tragedy.
