Google’s new Nest cameras are wired-only, app leak reveals

Following a leak last month, a new update to the Google Home app has surfaced with images and details about the company’s new lineup of Nest cameras.

App updates on Android can carry more data behind the scenes than you’ll actually see which, over the years, has led to plenty of times where we’ve found more details about Google products before their official release. It’s not as common anymore, but it just happened again in the latest Google Home update.

Presumably found in the Google Home v3.40 update that was just released, the folks over at Android Authority came across a handful of images of Google’s upcoming Nest Cam updates including the Nest Cam Outdoor (wired, 2nd Gen), the Nest Cam Indoor (wired, 3rd Gen), and the Nest Doorbell (wired, 3rd Gen). Those names are also also confirmed in the app, along with the lack of any new updates to the company’s battery-powered models.

The images themselves don’t show much new beyond confirming that Google is using the same base for Nest Cam Indoor and the same mounting method for the Doorbell too.

Notably, none of these images actually show up in the Home app on its latest version. We’re assuming the publication has manually enabled the new menu items and uncovered the images from the app’s files, but it’s not explicitly mentioned.

Google has started teasing the arrival of its new Nest hardware, with a recent post confirming that we’ll hear more on October 1. Release dates, pricing, and more remain unclear.

In a prior leak, it was revealed that these new Nest Cam products would offer 2K video resolution and tie into a new “Google Home Premium” subscription instead of Nest Aware.
