A movie adaptation of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights will be served to fans of the diabolically sorrowful novel this Valentine’s Day.
Emerald Fennell, who helmed the highly praised Promising Young Woman and Saltburn, will direct the retelling of the 1847 love story, starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. The film’s trailer features Robbie as Catherine and Elordi as Heathcliff; the pair are captured amid brooding stares, fingers inserted in mouths, and heaving chests while Charli XCX‘s Brat track “Everything Is Romantic” pulsates in the background.
Charli posted the clip on X and teased that along with “Everything Is Romantic,” the film will feature “new original songs by me for Emerald Fennell’s ‘Wuthering Heights.’” The singer ended her note by wishing everyone a “happy early valentines <3.”
Earlier this year, Charli starred in the Prime Video series Overcompensating, and also has roles in the drama Erupcja, which she co-wrote, and 100 Nights of Hero. “I am really enjoying my acting journey,” Charli previously told Variety. “I feel very, very inspired at the moment in that field… and I only ever want to do things that inspire me and make me feel energized.”
Alongside Robbie and Elordi, the Wuthering Heights adaptation features Hong Chau as Nelly Dean, Alison Oliver as Isabella Linton, and Shazad Latif as Edgar Linton. The upcoming film will reunite Elordi, who co-starred in Saltburn, with Fennell, who also serves as writer and producer of the Gothic romance remake.
The project ignited a bidding war once Robbie and Elordi joined the cast, with Netflix’s $150 million offer losing out to Warner Bros.’ $80 million bid, according to Variety. The Wuthering Heights filmmakers, which include Robbie’s LuckyChap, opted for Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group’s Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy’s pitch for a wide theatrical release, per the outlet. The movie, set for a theatrical release on Feb. 13, 2026, is also the third collaboration between LuckyChap and Fennell.
