A recent report claims that Michael Longfellow was fired from Saturday Night Live (SNL). He joined the show in 2022 as a featured cast member. After three seasons, he announced he won’t return for Season 51. According to the aforementioned report, Longfellow learned about his departure from SNL when he was at an airport in Utah and shared more details on who informed him about his firing.
Why Michael Longfellow was reportedly fired from SNL
The reason behind Michael Longfellow’s firing remains publicly undisclosed. However, it’s likely due to the reported “shake-ups” on the show ahead of the new season, which reportedly led to the departure of several other members, too.
According to The Daily Beast, Longfellow learnt about his departure when he was at an airport in Utah, on the way to catch his flight. He didn’t receive the firing news from Lorne Michaels but from his agent.
As per the report, Michaels occassionally calls candidates hired for SNL. However, in most cases, they’re notified through his subordinates. In case of firing, the cast usually gets to know they are sacked through agents or news reports. SNL hasn’t addressed Longfellow’s firing as of yet.
On August 28, Longfellow took to Instagram to announce his departure from SNL ahead of the new season. He shared a series of pictures from his time on the sketch comedy show and shared a lengthy caption.
It read, “Will not be returning for a 4th season at SNL. Wish I was but, so it goes. It was the best three years of my life so far. I feel nothing but gratitude for the experience and everyone there. Lorne, you gave me the greatest job in the world and changed my life. You even put my mom on TV. Thank you doesn’t begin to cover it, but thank you.”
He further mentioned that he’ll miss the cast members and remains excited for what comes next. “Excited for the future and things to come. If you take anything away from my time on SNL let it be that smoking you makes you skinny and popular, Jesus was Chinese, and if a tortoise ever gives you trouble just kill him tough guy. You wont,” he added.
Apart from Longfellow, other cast members who are leaving SNL before Season 51 are: Devon Walker, Emil Wakim, and Heidi Gardner, among more.
