“I believe that if someone says you can’t do something, you should prove them 110 percent wrong,” Lubeck shared on Instagram
The designer behind the engagement ring seen around the world has spoken.
Kindred Lubeck, the jeweler who created Taylor Swift‘s old mine cut diamond engagement alongside Travis Kelce (which is estimated to be worth up to $5 million!) shared an Instagram video thanking old and new fans alike for their support following the pop star and athlete’s engagement.
“My name is Kindred Lubeck. I’m 30 years old, I started making jewelry in the summer of 2019. I was 25.” Lubeck began.
“I believe that if someone says you can’t do something, you should prove them 110 percent wrong. I think when one door closes, you should kick the next one down. I think that if you have a dream, you should never, ever quit,” she encouraged.

She then concluded her message with a sweet nod to Swift and her fans. “For those of you have been with me since day one, thank you so much form the bottom of my heart. And to those of you who are new, I’m enchanted to meet you.”
Lubeck’s start in fine jewelry was actually never planned, according to an interview she did with Voyage Jacksonville in September 2024. As a psychology graduate from Florida State University, Lubeck worked at a law firm until she “finally had enough.” She explained: “Out of desperation, I swallowed my pride and asked my dad [goldsmith and founder of Jewels by Lubeck Jay Lubeck] if he would be willing to give me part time work until I found another job. I was 24 years old at the time.”

She joined the family company in October 2019 and practiced the craft behind the scenes when they were forced to shut down their showroom during the COVID-19 pandemic. She worked with sterling silver and eventually gold, all the while taking engraving classes to perfect the art. “It’s my engraved pieces that put me on the digital map. I started making reels showcasing my work and people started noticing. Eventually, I started getting requests for me to make engagement rings,” she said.
In 2023, she started Artifex Fine Jewelry online, where rings sell upwards of $38,300, and expanded her business with a studio in New York City in June 2024.
“I think it’s important to mention that I was able to do this without any financial help in the form of loans, donations, or gifts. I say this because it’s hard work that allowed me to get here. Hard work and dedication makes anything possible,” she revealed.
Her brand website also revealed that Lubeck “was once told that she would never be a jewelry designer,” but now is a “goldsmith, hand engraver and vintage jewelry collector.”

Lubeck has yet to reveal what went into designing Swift’s sparkler; however, industry experts believe that the rock features a large diamond with anywhere from seven to 20 carats.
Gemstone pros have also revealed the rich history behind Swift’s jewel, which has origins dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. “Original stones from this era are extremely rare,” Tom Moses, executive vice president and chief laboratory and research officer at the Gemological Institute of America, told PEOPLE, “[A] well-preserved original is something collectors and enthusiasts treasure.”
