Alicia Silverstone’s Emerald ‘90s Slipdress Plunges to Her Ribs

Alicia Silverstone was the It girl of ‘90s fashion. Clueless, hello?! Thirty years after the film’s premiere, the actress is at the Venice Film Festival with a new movie—and she’s still bringing a ‘90s twist to her red carpet looks.

Attending the Filming Italy Venice Award press conference during the 82nd Venice International Film Festival on August 31, Silverstone opted for a slinky emerald green silk slipdress. The dress featured a deep plunging neckline, spaghetti straps, and a long flowing skirt. In other words, it absolutely nailed the slip silhouette that took the ‘90s red carpets by storm. She finished off the look with a couple of delicate gold necklaces, a chunky gold cuff bracelet, gold strappy heeled sandals, a black and gold handbag, and undone loose blonde waves.

Silverstone is only the latest celeb to nod to ‘90s nostalgia by bringing back the iconic slipdress. Christina Aguilera recently rocked a sheer slipdress that was extremely ‘90s-coded, while Dakota Johnson also put a ‘90s spin on the red carpet in a slinky Gucci number. Kaia Gerber and Carys Douglas, both daughters of ‘90s It girls themselves (Cindy Crawford and Catherine Zeta-Jones, respectively) have also recently opted for ‘90s slipdresses. 

Silverstone is making her debut in Venice for the world premiere of Yorgos Lanthimos’ film Bugonia, which also stars Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons. Silverstone wore an ethereal white gown for the premiere on August 28, while her co-star, Stone, rocked a Louis Vuitton gown with a controversial peplum.

“Yorgos is a ‘hell yes,’ anywhere, anytime,” Silverstone said to Byrdie of working with Lanthimos on the film. “He’s so brilliant, so lovely, so fun. Truly, I will do anything for him.”

Silverstone is also set to reprise her role as Cher in a Clueless reboot series next year.

“I can’t wait to step back into Cher’s skin and her fancy designer shoes that will be gently used, of course, duh, because she’s evolved,” she said to Entertainment Tonight earlier this month. “This is 2025, she’s not wearing the new stuff unless it’s sustainable or vegan. We’ll have to see how far we can go with that.”
