It’s really happening. Magic Kingdom is about to change in a big way.

Not only is Magic Kingdom getting a Frontierland expansion with an entire area themed to Cars, but it’s also getting a Villains land. Now, we’ve had some details about the Cars area coming to the park, but now we’ve got NEW details about the Villains land, so let’s get into what we know so far about this expansion.
Villains Land was announced back in August 2024 at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. At the time, Disney revealed that the new land would be home to the villains we “know and loathe” from Disney’s animated movies. Disney said, “The evil ambition of all these Villains means that the possibilities are endless for the stories that can be told — and visitors to the dark and thorny land should be prepared for whatever chaos might come their way.” We even saw a little bit of a sneak peek at the villains we might see in this new land.

We were then told the new land would have two major attractions, restaurants, and shops on an “incredibly twisted grand scale.” Well, now we have even MORE details. We started off getting to hear from Disney Animation animator Andreas Deja, who designed Jafar, Scar, and Gaston. He mentioned that the “big personalities, bold visuals, and rich backgrounds” will influence the overall ambiance of the new Villans Land.

Then, two Walt Disney Imagineers, Wyatt Winter and Caroline, came onstage to talk about the process of designing and develop the new Villains Land. The process began with trips to Paris and Barcelona to learn about the architecture of these cities. The team focused on Art Nouveau architecture and the trip helped the team get a close up look at this style in practice.

The team traveled alongside local professors and art and architectural historians to receive “an intimate look at the architectural aesthetics that will serve as the overall design inspiration for the land.” Paris was full of Art Nouveau examples and Barcelona allowed the team to experience Modernisme. Both of these styles will be brought into the new Villains Lands with inspiration from this trip.

The team has coined a new term, “Conjured Architecture” that refers to the “blend of historical components and fantastical worlds that have merged to ultimately create something wicked that will be able to be experienced firsthand – a villains-inspired land.” The team highlighted natural motifs and swirling designs in Art Nouveau that appeared “cursed” and like magic had frozen them in place. The Modernisme in Barcelona provided an “otherworldly, unnerving appearance”

The designers are also taking inspiration from the color palettes they experienced. These design styles were full of rich tones, and details like stained-glass windows and painted metals will also be incorporated into the land. We’ll admit we’re pretty excited about this new land and are looking forward to learning even more about it. We’ll keep an eye out for more details and share them, so be sure to check back with AllEars again soon for more.
