BLACK ROCK CITY, Nev. — A man was found dead at the Burning Man festival on Saturday, prompting an investigation by local authorities.
On August 30, at approximately 9:14 p.m., as the festival’s iconic “man” was beginning to burn, a participant alerted a Pershing County Sheriff’s Office deputy to a male subject lying in a pool of blood.
Deputies from the Pershing County Sheriff’s Office and Bureau of Land Management Rangers responded immediately to the campsite, where they discovered a deceased white adult male. Officers established a perimeter around the area and commenced an investigation.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Science Division was called in to assist with processing the scene and collecting evidence. Law enforcement officials have been interviewing several participants in the vicinity, and this process is ongoing. The area will continue to have a heavy law enforcement presence until the scene is cleared.
The identity of the deceased remains unknown, and the body has been transported to the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
