Who knew that CMLL running a cross-promotion with Pokémon could prove to be so successful? The Mexican company’s upcoming Pokémon Legends: Z-A X CMLL event on 25 September is reportedly selling very, very well. Luchablog reports that (at time of writing), the promotion “has already sold all but 2 numbered seats”.
They’ve since opened up other sections of Arena Mexico to shift even more briefs.
In other words, Pikachu is a massive draw. Mega Hawlucha, a wrestling-themed lucha character in the Pokémon universe, will be part of the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Z-A game that’s hitting shelves and digital storefronts come 16 October. The game will be available on both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, if you’re interested.
CMLL bosses must be thrilled that their crossover promotion with Pokémon has proven so successful already. Is it too much to ask that Pikachu hits somebody with a destroyer in mid-October? That must happen.
It’s worth saying that Pokémon Legends: Z-A X CMLL will air on CMLL’s official YouTube channel too, so anyone who fancies checking out some barmy lucha-inspired Poké action is covered. Currently, Arena Mexico has a capacity of 16,500 when set up for pro wrestling, so it’s amazing that tickets have been snapped up so readily.
Insert jokes like, ‘gotta catch ’em all’ here.
Matches for the event will be announced in due course. Again though, if there isn’t a big Battle Royal of various characters from the Pokémon world, then everyone will be rather disappointed. OK, maybe not everyone. CMLL will surely find a way to keep fans entertained regardless of who’s going over, brother.
