Taylor Swift (aka “your English teacher”) is engaged to Travis Kelce—and her ring is worth studying.
The massive old mine brilliant cut diamond at its center has already landed on dozens of Pinterest boards, as Swift shared a close-up picture of her ring in her Instagram to break the big news. That post currently sits at 33 million likes. “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨,” the pop icon wrote in the caption.
Swift’s squad were quick to comment their congratulations on her relationship milestone. Longtime friend Selena Gomez shared the fairytale photos of the singer’s garden engagement to her Instagram Stories on August 27, writing alongside them, “When bestie gets engaged 🥰.” Sabrina Carpenter also re-shared Swift’s post to her Instagram story, captioning it with 10 white heart emojis, per People.
The “Love Story” singer’s future father-in-law, Ed Kelce, spilled all the details about the moment Travis knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring. In an interview with ABC, the 74-year-old revealed that the couple got engaged almost two weeks before their official announcement on August 26, 2025. Ed shared that the proposal happened at Travis’s home in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
It’s no surprise the Trayvis proposal broke the Internet, but the details about the Grammy winner’s sparkler may have gotten lost in the flurry of reactions (and Swifties’ attempts to find all the easter eggs that foreshadowed it).
Here’s everything to know about Taylor Swift’s engagement ring, from its meaningful design and estimated cost to how it complements her timeless personal style.

Swift has always been a fan of vintage-inspired looks (see: her Red era, circa 2012), so Kelce was right on target with the custom ring he chose. The stunning diamond, features an old mine brilliant cut. Max Milligan, head of sales at luxury jeweler Queensmith, estimates the diamond is around 10 carats. Milligan notes that given the cut, the stone is “almost certainly a natural.”
The historic diamond style dates back to the 19th century, Gemological Institute of America Executive VP Tom Moses told People, noting that original stones from the era “are extremely rare.” Kegan Fisher, Co-Founder and CEO of Frank Darling, noted that antique diamonds tend to be chunkier and that the elongated ratio further sets Taylor’s apart. Adding to the vintage diamond’s appeal, its one-of-a-kind cut is perfect for catching candlelight in its 58 facets—“cardigan (cabin in candlelight version),” anyone?
“The setting is complemented by smaller bezel-set accent diamonds incorporated into the band,” Milligan told InStyle. A bezel setting (like that of Zendaya’s 5-carat sparkler) means the gem has a rim of metal around it for added security and a low-profile wear, as the diamond sits closer to the finger than a prong-set one would.
Jared Jewelers’ VP of Merchandising, Ann Grimmett, suggested the ring’s accent stones “look to be a half-moon plus a small round, which contribute to its more vintage look.”
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Kelce worked with Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry to design the retro-chic sparkler. Lubeck is a second-generation goldsmith, engraver, and jewelry designer from Florida, per a 2024 interview she did with Voyage Jacksonville magazine.
As for the rest of the ring, most experts have guessed it’s an 18K yellow gold band that might be engraved with tiny stars—does it get any more romantic?

Laura Taylor of Lorel Diamonds estimates that Swift’s stone could fetch a handsome $1 million if it’s a natural diamond between 10 to 12 carats and meets other quality metrics.
More conservative estimates are still on the upper end of the five-figure range. Fisher put it at $750,000, while Miller guessed closer to $800,000.
That puts it on the pricier side of celebrity sparklers. Brides reports that Kourtney Kardashian’s 10-carat diamond from now-husband Travis Barker is also estimated to cost $1 million, as is Jennifer Aniston’s 9-carat one from ex-husband Justin Theroux.
Kelce proposed in a garden of willow, ivy, and roses worth $38K.
The three-time Super Bowl champion created an enchanted garden backdrop for the magical moment. According to florist Ashley Greer, who spoke with People about the types of flowers used and cost, Kelce picked willow, ivy, and roses in a reference to Swift’s discography. Other flowers visible in the photos include lilies, hydrangea, and delphinium, alongside a whopping 800 pounds of greenery, per Greer.
What’s the price tag for such a dreamy setting? About $38,000 when including the floral domed arboretum, nearby planters, and the arrangements decorating the ground and path leading up to the structure, Greer explained.

Swift’s vintage-style diamond may be uncommon, but there is one other A-lister that received a similar stone. Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman received a 4-carat old mine cut diamond from now-ex-husband Benjamin Millepied in 2010. Jewelry designer and ballet dancer Jamie Wolf, spilled about Portman’s ring to HuffPost in a 2012 interview.
“The ring was really a marriage of thought. [Portman] wanted recycled metal and for the center stone to be a conflict-free, old mine cut (popular in the early 18th century), antique stone, so we looked for the perfect pieces for months,” Wolf told the outlet.

When it comes to Swift, the old mine cut diamond is the perfect match for her vintage-inspired aesthetic. Lorel Diamonds expert Taylor told InStyle the unique cut “feels exactly right for [Swift]. It leans more historical than Hollywood, with the engraved band, warm yellow gold and intricate setting offering a real contrast to the minimal platinum solitaires we often see on other celebrities…It’s timeless, characterful, and full of storytelling.”
