However, according to the latest report, one of the Cupertino giant’s display suppliers, LG, wants Apple to gravitate to tandem OLEDs for iPhones quickly, likely because it wants to monetarily benefit from mass producing millions of units for future models.

The reason why it took Samsung a painfully long time to begin full-scale production of these panels for the M4 iPad Pro series is because Apple had to place a sufficiently large order. In the end, the profitability factor needs to make sense for the manufacturer to start investing millions into production facilities. This could be the reason why LG might not develop similar technology for any of Apple’s other product lineups, because none of them come close to the annual volume of the iPhone.
Even if the company agrees to this transition, the report mentions that the earliest we could see a tandem OLED in an iPhone is 2028.
