A new report has revealed the potential cost and apparent release date of Samsung’s upcoming Android XR headset, and while it’s right around the corner, the headset won’t be cheap by any means.
Korean publication Newsworks reports that Samsung’s Android XR headset – referred to as “Project Moohan” and/or “Project Infinite” – will be available for purchase, at least in Korea, starting on October 13. That’s a timeline we’ve heard previously, along with the mention that Samsung is planning an Unpacked event in Korea on September 29 that would see the headset fully detailed.
The big reveal in this latest report is around pricing, as Samsung’s Android XR headset apparently won’t be cheap.
The report claims that Samsung plans to price its Android XR headset in the range of 2.5 million to 4 million won, or roughly $1,800 – $2,800 USD. That leaves the headset less expensive than Apple’s $3,500 Vision Pro headset, but potentially only by a slim margin. Compared to Meta’s Quest 3, Samsung’s price is around 4x more expensive as well.
Samsung is thought to be planning to sell just 100,000 units of “Moohan” by the end of 2025.
Meanwhile, Samsung is also expected to launch smart glasses in 2026, offering both models with and without a display, though pricing and release windows for these are still unclear. XREAL is the other company currently working on an Android XR headset akin to “Moohan” set for release in “early” 2026. These may end up more affordable than Samsung’s headset, as XREAL’s lineup currently maxes out at $649.
