Gavin Newsom launches the ultimate troll yet: ‘Trump is not hot’

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) launched his ultimate troll yet of President Donald Trump.

Newsom launched his “PATRIOT” merchandise store on Sunday, selling items that mimic Trump’s signature MAGA apparel, including hats, bibles and tank tops. The shop includes a red hat that reads, “Newsom was right about everything,” which directly mocks Trump’s own hat he was spotted wearing on Friday.

The shop also includes a white tank top that reads, “Trump is not hot,” and a red hat that has “Real Patriot” written across it.

As of Sunday evening, Newsom said on social media platform X that the shop had sold over $100,000 worth of merchandise, including the complete sellout of his $100 signed bibles by Sunday afternoon.

Trump was brutally mocked last year for selling “God Bless the USA” bibles for $60.

“WOW! WE HAVE NOW SOLD OVER $100K OF THE BEST PRODUCTS EVER MADE!!IF YOU HATE THE PATRIOT SHOP, YOU HATE AMERICA! THANK YOU!” Newsom wrote on X, mocking Trump’s Truth Social posts.

Newsom also mocked Trump’s signature slogan, “Make America Great Again,” by teasing new flags for his merch shop. The flag, which mimics Trump’s flags, reads “Make America Gavin Again.”

“SOON ‘MAGA’ WILL HAVE A WHOLE NEW MEANING! COMING SOON FOR YOUR NEXT BOAT PARADE! YOU ARE VERY WELCOME, PATRIOTS!” he wrote on X.

Newsom’s press office has been mocking Trump by mimicking the president’s social media posts for weeks, often tweeting posts in all-caps and giving his political rivals new nicknames. The MAGA base and conservatives have complained about Newsom’s new social media strategy, with many arguing that he is not being authentic.

A recent analysis from CNN data guru Harry Enten found that Newsom’s new social media strategy is “absolutely” working, citing an increase in social media followers and Google searches. He said on “Laura Coates Live” that Newsom’s press office account on X has increased its following by 450% since mid-June.

Enten said that daily Google searches for Newsom are up 1,300% since June 1 and up 500% since Aug. 1. Newsom’s new social media strategy comes as he eyes a potential run for president in the 2028 election.
