The Philadelphia Eagles waived quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson on Sunday afternoon, according to an official team announcement.
This development comes as no surprise.
For about a week (or so) during training camp, it looked like DTR might make a legitimate run as the Eagles’ third quarterback job.
But then DTR really struggled in a preseason game against his former team, the Cleveland Browns. As a result, the Eagles demoted DTR to barely taking reps behind rookie Kyle McCord. DTR didn’t even play in Philadelphia’s third and final preseason game.
DTR was originally acquired by the Eagles in a trade with the Browns back in March. The Eagles sent Kenny Pickett to Cleveland in exchange for DTR and a 2025 fifth-round pick. That selection was packaged with the Eagles’ first-round pick at No. 32 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft to move up one spot to the Kansas City Chiefs’ pick at No. 31 to prevent other teams from trading ahead of Philly’s pick and selecting Jihaad Campbell.
DTR was really just a throw-in to the trade; a flier that the Eagles took a chance on. And it didn’t work out. We’ll see if another team ends up taking a chance on him. Perhaps a UCLA reunion with Chip Kelly on the Las Vegas Raiders?
The Eagles have until 4:00 PM Easter on Tuesday, August 26 to trim the roster down to 53 players. Cutting DTR leaves them with 36 moves to go.
