James Gunn has clarified some DCU timeline business following the premiere of Peacemaker Season 2.
The first episode of Peacemaker Season 2 is now available to stream on HBO Max. While the first season served as an extension of the DCEU, which ended with 2023’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the new season exists within Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU, which officially launched in 2024 with Creature Commandos.
What did James Gunn say about the DCU timeline and Peacemaker Season 2?
The first season recap that happens at the start of Peacemaker Season 1 noticeably switches out the DCEU’s Justice League for the DCU’s Justice Gang; meaning the silhouettes of Mister Terrific, Superman, Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, and Supergirl are all seen.
One person who appears to be missing from the line-up is Metamorpho, as the character played by Anthony Carrigan joined the Justice Gang at the end of Gunn’s Superman.
When asked why Metamorpho isn’t in the recap, Gunn said on Threads, “The previously section happens before Superman.” This means that the first season of Peacemaker is officially set before Superman, while the second season takes place after the events of the first DCU movie.
New episodes of Peacemaker Season 2 will continue to be released on Thursdays. The cast of the show includes John Cena as Chris Smith/Peacemaker, Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase/Vigilante, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Steve Agee as John Economos, Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith/White Dragon, Sol Rodríguez as Sasha Bordeaux, Tim Meadows as Langston Fleury, and Michael Rooker as Red St. Wild.
“In Season 2, Peacemaker discovers an alternate world where life is everything he wishes it could be. But this discovery also forces him to face his traumatic past and take the future into his own hands,” the show’s logline reads.
