MAGA world is praising an early morning FBI raid on the Maryland home of John Bolton, President Donald Trump’s former national security adviser, as part of an investigation into the handling of classified documents, several outlets reported on Friday.
Federal agents conducted the search at Bolton’s house in Bethesda, just outside Washington, D.C. The investigation was ordered by FBI Director Kash Patel, according to a Trump administration official who spoke to The New York Post.
Trump administration officials appeared to refer to the search in a series of social media posts.
“NO ONE is above the law… @FBI agents on mission,” Patel wrote on X.
Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino said that “Public corruption will not be tolerated.”
Attorney General Pam Bondi also weighed in: “America’s safety isn’t negotiable. Justice will be pursued. Always.”
Conservative social media users on X quickly began to celebrate the development.
MAGA podcaster Nick Sortor declared that “This deep state hack is FINALLY being taken down!”
“Perp walk him!“ he added.
Eric Daugherty, the assistant news director of Florida’s Voice, posted: “Yes. We did, indeed, vote for this.”
“Good morning. John Bolton. How does it feel to have your home raided at 6 o’clock in the morning?” Roger Stone, Trump’s longest-serving political adviser, wrote in a post, and in another, said “Wait ! Where was CNN?”
The “MAGA Voice” account added, “The Swamp is getting drained.”
“Republicans have been just crying out for accountability. They’ve been getting away with lawlessness and lawfare, and everything else, and no one is above the law… I’m glad they’re going after him,” Rep. John McGuire (R-Va.) told Newsmax when asked for his initial reaction.
Others ripped into the cryptic posts of Trump’s top security leaders.
“I loathe this sh– … just do your job and stop posting like a teenage girl looking for attention,” one user wrote to Patel.
Another user chimed in: “I’m not gonna spend too much time feeling sorry for John Bolton, but in a functioning country an FBI director would never tweet something like this during a raid.”
Bolton was not detained or charged with any crime, according to the Associated Press, citing a person familiar with the matter.
Bolton served as Trump’s third national security adviser over the span of 17 months, from 2018 to 2019, but sparred with him on foreign policy with Iran, North Korea and Afghanistan. After leaving office, Bolton also faced intense scrutiny over his 2020 White House memoir detailing his time in the government — with officials arguing that he had disclosed classified information.
In 2021, the Justice Department dropped both an investigation and grand jury investigation into Bolton over “The Room Where It Happened.” Meanwhile, the current probe that led to the FBI raid was initially launched years ago, but was shut down by the previous administration “for political reasons,” Fox News reported.
The raid comes as the Trump administration has moved to examine the actions of the president’s perceived adversaries, including the resurfaced Trump-Russia probe. On the first day of his second term, Trump revoked the security clearances of dozens of former intelligence officials, including Bolton. Bolton also had his security details canceled earlier this year.
Bolton’s X account had posted amid the raid: “Russia has not changed its goal: drag Ukraine into a new Russian Empire… Meanwhile, meetings will continue because Trump wants a Nobel Peace Prize, but I don’t see these talks making any progress.”
