SAN FRANCISCO — A South Lake Tahoe resident has tested positive for the plague.

Obviously, it’s nowhere near as dangerous as it was centuries ago, but officials warn it still needs to be taken seriously.

Health officials in El Dorado County believe the person got it from a flea bite while camping.

Human plague cases are rare.

The CDC says an average of seven people a year catch the plague across the country.

It’s treated with antibiotics.
