Republican lawmaker Kristin Robbins joins race for Minnesota governor

A Minnesota state lawmaker has joined the race for the governor’s office.

Rep. Kristin Robbins (R-Maple Grove) officially announced her gubernatorial campaign on Wednesday, becoming the third well-known Republican to join the race. Scott Jensen and Kendall Qualls have already announced plans to run for the office again in 2026, and Phillip Parrish and Brad Kohler are also seeking the Republican gubernatorial nomination.

Gov. Tim Walz hasn’t yet revealed if he’ll seek a third term but is expected to make an announcement in the near future.

Robbins has served in the Minnesota House of Representatives since 2019 and currently serves on the Taxes, Higher Education Finance and Policy, Ways and Means, and Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Policy committees, chairing the latter one and serving as vice chair of Ways and Means.

Unsurprisingly, she’s making fraud a central part of her campaign.

“Over the last 8 years, Tim Walz has hurt families, businesses, and Minnesotan’s most vulnerable citizens,” Robbins said in her campaign announcement. “Under his mismanagement and leadership failures, our state has been heading in the wrong direction. Tim Walz burned through an $18 billion budget surplus, raised taxes by $10 billion, and allowed massive fraud to run rampant in his own agencies.”

The fourth-term lawmaker added that she’s “committed to stopping the fraud, restoring fiscal responsibility, and bringing back common-sense leadership so the state works for Minnesotans, not against them.”

In addition to fraud, Robbins’ campaign website lists lowering taxes, improving schools and better supporting law enforcement as her top priorities.
