Tom Brady is arguably the NFL’s greatest quarterback with seven Super Bowl titles, five Super Bowl MVPs, 35 playoff wins and much more.
While Von Miller has a lot of respect for Brady, there’s one quarterback he regards as the greatest of all time.
“For me, it’ll always be Peyton Manning,” the Washington Commanders cornerback said recently on the “Glory Daze” podcast. “He changed the quarterback position (in terms of) changing the play. He wasn’t scrambling or doing none of that stuff. He did it all with his arm. And it was beautiful, man.”
Manning certainly had and a strong and accurate arm. His 5,477 passing yards and 55 touchdowns have been a season-single record since 2013. He surpassed Brady, who set the record in 2007.
Manning was 3-2 against Brady in the playoffs, but 6-11 in head-to-head matchups. Still, Manning’s five NFL MVPs is a league record. The Hall of Fame QB was also the first at the position to win Super Bowls with different franchise, doing so with the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLI and with the Denver Broncos and Miller as a teammate in Super Bowl 50.
Brady has since accomplished that feat, winning six with the New England Patriots and one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
In his newsletter, Brady revealed that Manning was “a gift to my NFL career” because he inspired Brady to be better.
There’s no doubt both Brady and Manning were among the two most respected quarterbacks in the league during their time. Brady’s longevity and seven Super Bowls might give him the edge in the GOAT debate to some, but others like Miller believe what Manning did with his arm was enough to earn that title.
