Kid Rock Is Mad at Gavin Newsom’s Obviously Fake Endorsement Post

The musician managed a “DEEZ NUTZ” clapback to the California governor’s Trump-inspired trolling

In recent weeks, California Governor Gavin Newsom has given his press office free rein to go full all-caps troll mode on X. Almost all of the account’s posts right now are mimicking Donald Trump’s distinct tweeting style, replete with condescending nicknames, weirdly formal phrasing, and multiple-exclamation-point bluster. On Monday, the account even went so far as to gin up a phony picture of avowed Trump supporter Kid Rock dressed as Uncle Sam with the slogan, “Kid Rock wants you to support Gavin Newsom.”

Accompanying the post was a mocking message from the governor: “I ACCEPT! — GCN.”

Like many in the MAGA world who’ve been completely befuddled by the Newsom press office’s tweeting, Kid Rock took the bait and fired back: “The only support Gavin Newscum will ever get out of me is from DEEZ NUTZ.”

It’s a response that, to say the least, absolutely reeks of “and another thing: im not mad. please dont put in the newspaper that i got mad.” And Newsom’s press office was happy to run with the engagement. A follow-up post yesterday read: “I HATE KID ROCK !!! — GCN.” And after that came another distinctly Trump-ian post, ‘HAS ANYONE NOTICED THAT SINCE I SAID ‘I HATE KID ROCK’ HE’S NO LONGER ‘HOT?’ — GCN.”

If, by chance, this whole absurd exchange is giving you a deranged sense of déjà vu, don’t worry: You’re not going insane (at least no more than we all are, in general). The fake Kid Rock/Uncle Sam endorsement is almost certainly a callback to when Trump shared a collage of likely AI-generated images on Truth Social touting the support of “Swifties for Trump.”

Among the images was an obviously fake pic of Taylor Swift, dressed as Uncle Sam, with the slogan, “Taylor Wants You to Vote for Donald Trump.” Trump captioned his whole post, “I accept!”

But if you want real proof of just how steeped in it the folks running the Newsom press office account are, look no further than the timing of their Kid Rock/Uncle Sam tweet. It was posted Aug. 18, 2025, exactly one year after Trump’s “Swifties for Trump” post on Aug. 18, 2024.
