Sekiro Anime Officially Revealed, Watch The First Trailer Here

The anime adaptation of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has officially been revealed as Sekiro: No Defeat. Debuting at Gamescom Opening Night Live, From Software parent company Kadokawa–alongside anime streaming platform Crunchyroll and animation studios Qzil.la and Arch–spoke about how this production aims to respectfully adapt From Software’s cult-classic game with fully hand-drawn animation.

Set in a fantastical reimagining of Sengoku-era Japan, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice follows the Shinobi Wolf on his quest to rescue the young lord Kuro. The anime will be available exclusively through Crunchyroll outside of Japan, China, and Korea upon its debut later in 2026.

“We are taking on the monumental task of animating the breathtakingly beautiful Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. In doing so, we are pouring every ounce of our artistic vision and passion for beauty into its production,” said Kenichi Kutsuna, director of the adaptation. “The final product is being crafted to be a truly memorable experience, one that will leave a lasting impression on both dedicated fans of the game and those who are discovering the world of Sekiro for the very first time. Please look forward to it.”

In addition to Kutsuna, the anime has a stacked cast of talent behind it, like character designer Takahiro Kishida (Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind), art director Yuji Kaneko (Star Wars Visions: The Duel), and several more talented individuals. Earlier this month, a new web domain for “Sekiro-Anime” was registered by Kadokawa Corporation, hinting at an official reveal after years of rumors. Sekiro’s animated adaptation comes at a time when several big video game IP have been adapted into anime, with notable examples being and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

Other projects are also in the works like a Ghost of Tsushima anime adaptation focused on the game’s Legends co-op mode.
