Kseniya Alexandrova, who represented Russia in the 2017 Miss Universe pageant, was struck by a wild animal while driving with her husband in July.
The model’s husband, Ilya, told a Russian news source that the couple were returning from the town of Rzhev in the Tver Oblast region on July 5 when they came in contact with the animal along the nation’s sprawling M9 highway.
Ilya was behind the wheel while Alexandrova was sitting in the passenger seat.
“An elk jumped out from somewhere, jumped out in front of the car,” he shared in an interview translated from Russian. “From the moment it jumped out until the impact, a split second passed. I did not have time to do anything. The elk flew into the car. The blow hit [Alexandrova] in the head. She was unconscious, her head was broken, everything was covered in blood.”
She had severe injuries to her brain from the accident, eventually succumbing to them on August 12 after Alexandrova spent days in a coma.
The widower noted that they were both wearing seatbelts and were traveling at low speed when the elk jumped in front of their car. The airbags did not deploy, but several drivers who saw the crash stopped to help. An ambulance arrived shortly thereafter and transferred the bloodied Alexandrova to a nearby hospital in Moscow.
Her modeling agency, Modus Vivendis, mourned the passing of their client in an Instagram post.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce that our colleague and friend, model Ksenia Alexandrova, passed away last night. Ksenia was bright, talented and extraordinarily bright. She knew how to inspire, support and give warmth to everyone around her. For us she will forever remain a symbol of beauty, kindness and inner strength. We sincerely mourn and express our deepest condolences to her family, friends and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing Ksenia. A bright memory…” the caption read.
Alexandrova and Ilya got married back in March.
RIP Kseniya.
