TREMONTON, Utah (KUTV) — Three law enforcement officers were shot in Tremonton during an active incident Sunday night.
The Brigham City Police Department said Tremonton-Garland police officers responded to reports of a disturbance near 700 N 200 E. They said a suspect opened fire on officers, injuring three first responders.
Police did not confirm their conditions, saying they will have more information on the wounded officers in the next 24 hours.
However, earlier in the night, KUTV reported on a statement posted by Mayor Lyle Homgren on Tremonton City’s official social media page. The mayor said two officers were killed and a deputy was wounded before later deleting the post.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen officers and pray for the quick recovery of the wounded deputy. We mourn with their loved ones, their fellow officers, and the entire community that feels this loss so profoundly,” Homgren said in the now-deleted statement.
Police said the officers arrived at the scene when the suspect began shooting. The officers called for backup and then “stopped answering their radio,” according to Brigham City police.
Once units from Box Elder, Weber, and Cache Counties arrived, the suspect was located and taken into custody.
“There is no current threat to the public. Law Enforcement is asking that individuals avoid the area,” officials said.

Tremonton resident Caleb Hyre said he heard gunshots and saw first responders from multiple agencies respond to the scene.
“It’s like the biggest thing I’ve ever seen happen in Tremonton,” he said. “It’s scary to see this stuff happening in this little, somewhat quiet town.”
Officials issued a shelter-in-place for residents near 700 N 200 E, and asked the public to avoid the area while police investigate.
