Alfie Davis shocked Gadzhi Rabadanov in the main event of PFL 9 to leave with the lightweight world tournament championship in a shocking upset, but it was Liz Carmouche who stole the night.
Davis faced Rabadanov in the headliner of Friday night’s card at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C. The protege of Khabib Nurmagomedov was a massive favorite, but Davis landed the more damaging shots throughout the fight to win 48-47 across the board.
Davis captured the $500,000 grand prize, while Rabadanov saw his 12-fight win streak come to an end.
In the co-main event, Carmouche, the former Bellator women’s flyweight champion, battled Jena Bishop in a matchup of 2024 season semi-finalists. After a closely contested first round, Bishop nearly got an armbar on Carmouche, and then transitioned to a deep triangle choke.
Carmouche battled out of the spot, and made it to Round 3 where she went on to deliver a ferocious left hook that floored Bishop and led to the end of the fight to win the women’s flyweight tournament title.
The first world tournament champion crowned on the night was Marcirley Alves, who wasn’t initially supposed to be in the bantamweight slate. However, opportunity knocked, and now Alves is a tournament winner after defeating Justin Wetzell via unanimous decision in the featured bout.
In the lightweight main card opener, former CFFC champion Robert Watley picked up the biggest win of his career with a third-round stoppage of Mads Burnell in Watley’s return to the organization.
