HGTV star Jonathan Scott is not expecting a daughter, but a recent Instagram post had fans congratulating him and his fiancée, Zooey Deschanel, on a future baby girl.
On Thursday, the “Property Brothers” star shared a photo that put a humorous spin on Taylor Swift’s “The Life of a Showgirl” album cover, which the singer had unveiled on Wednesday. Scott’s mock album cover, titled “The Life of a Girl Dad,” featured the Canadian contractor in a plaid shirt and t-shirt, holding a hammer. He added playful “girl dad” touches, including a pink tutu, sparkly confetti, and what appeared to be eyeshadow and blush on his face.
Scott’s caption read, “Album out October 3rd,” which is the same day Swift is releasing her album. However, many fans interpreted the post as a pregnancy announcement, believing Scott and Deschanel’s baby girl was due in October.
Hundreds of congratulatory comments poured in, with one fan writing, “Yay!!! OMG I’m so happy for you two! Congratulations!” Another added, “Yay!!! How exciting!! You two are the cutest! And you are going to be a great girl dad!”
However, some users had a different take. One commenter pointed out, “You guys, I’m pretty sure this is just a joke because Taylor Swift announced her new album called ‘The Life of a Showgirl,’ and now everyone is making these funny pictures.”
That user was correct.
Scott later updated his caption to include, “Settle down… just a @taylorswift tribute.” Although it’s unclear if all the fans who initially thought the post was a pregnancy announcement saw this clarification.
Scott and the “New Girl” alum started dating in August 2019 after meeting on the set of James Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke.” They got engaged in August 2023, but haven’t married yet.
Though not officially wed, Scott has taken on the role of stepfather to Deschanel’s two children, Elsie Otter, 10, and Charlie Wolf, 8, from her previous marriage to Jacob Pechenik. His Swift-inspired post seemed to playfully reflect on his experience as a stepfather to Deschanel’s daughter.
