FORECAST FIRST ALERT: Strong storms headed towards the Twin Cities Friday evening

A FORECAST FIRST ALERT is in effect now due to severe thunderstorms in the Twin Cities Friday evening.

Meteorologist Jonathan Yuhas says the storms are most likely between 5:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. The potential for severe storms with tornadoes, damaging winds, hail and heavy rainfall for the Twin Cities is between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Friday will be partly cloudy, warm and very humid with highs in the upper 80’s and dew point temperatures in the low 70’s. The thunderstorms will develop rapidly west of the Twin Cities after 4:00 p.m. The threat for thunderstorms will end in the Twin Cities after 11:00 p.m.

Skies will be cloudy Saturday morning and then partly cloudy Saturday afternoon with muggy conditions. There’s another chance for scattered thunderstorms and heavy downpours of rain from 4:00 a.m. Sunday to 11:00 a.m. Sunday.
