The aftermath of Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, passing away from cancer at the age of 48 is shocking to most fans. There was obviously a lot going on behind the scenes that the 43-year-old talk show host kept quiet for the sake of their two children, River, 11, and Remington, 9.
Now, an insider close to Clarkson is revealing to the Daily Mail how she allegedly reacted to the situation when she discovered her former assistant, Brittney Marie Jones, was in a relationship with Blackstock. The source described the fallout as “just the icing on the cake of the disappointment [Clarkson] felt over the delusion of their marriage.”

The issue ultimately came down to Blackstock’s choices, even though it was a double betrayal for Clarkson.
“Brandon chose to move on with someone Kelly knew and trusted, and that just adds to the person he ended up being to her. He was a great father, but wasn’t a great husband,” the source continued. Clarkson kept this dark secret away from public consumption by only citing “irreconcilable differences” in her divorce, but Blackstock’s decision to romance her former assistant was “a point of no return” for her.

Clarkson reportedly wants to make sure Jones isn’t the scapegoat in this situation after Blackstock’s passing and is working hard to stay away from any “drama from her fanbase.” The priority is her children’s well-being and nothing else. Of course, the timeline of events, noted by Jones’ LinkedIn profile and confirmed by People, has everyone pointing fingers at the cause of the divorce.
Jones moved to Montana in June 2020, after living in Nashville for her job with Blackstock and Clarkson. At that point, she had already been working for the couple in various capacities for four years. The move was a normal part of the job description, but the month of Jones’ relocation coincided with the pop star filing for divorce — and Clarkson and Blackstock’s divorce seemed to surprise everyone at the time.
“It just came out of nowhere. Their marriage was so strong,” an insider told People in June 2020.
Now, the puzzle pieces are starting to fit together five years later. Even if a relationship didn’t happen until after the divorce, the uncomfortable timeline has everyone raising eyebrows.
