McLaren offers 2026 F1 car for sale in unique auction

McLaren Racing and RM Sotheby’s have joined forces for an unrivaled auction at the Formula 1 season finale in Abu Dhabi on December 5 that pays tribute to the team’s history as winner of the sport’s Triple Crown.

Having won the Indianapolis 500 in 1974, the Monaco Grand Prix in 1984, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995, McLaren Racing stands as the only team to achieve the feat across the world’s three greatest races. To mark the achievement, McLaren and RM Sotheby’s will break new ground where, “in a world first, bidders will have the chance to acquire a 2026 McLaren Formula 1 Team car months before the new challenger is even unveiled to the public. The successful bidder will become the proud owner of a chassis campaigned by one of the team’s F1 drivers, Lando Norris or Oscar Piastri, during the 2026 FIA Formula 1 World Championship season, taking delivery of their purchase in 2028,” McLaren revealed.

“In addition, a 2025 show car will be offered on lease until the arrival of the car, and the buyer will be invited to visit the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking. Buyers will also have incredible behind-the-scenes access with McLaren Racing and the associated events as part of the purchase of the race cars.

“Also on offer is McLaren’s first LMDh hypercar from its debut season in the FIA World Endurance Championship season, giving bidders the vanishingly rare opportunity of acquiring a top-flight 24 Hours of Le Mans racer. Rounding out the trio of spectacular competition cars is an Arrow McLaren Indy car, driven by Pato O’Ward in the 110th Running of the Indianapolis 500 in May 2026.”

The announcement was made by McLaren CEO Zak Brown at Monterey Car Week.

“This auction is an extraordinary opportunity to own a piece of racing history and bid for a car that has competed on track before its official launch,” Brown said. “The Triple Crown is a huge part of our heritage and we are determined to claim it once again as we prepare for our 2027 entry into the World Endurance Championship. Not only that, these incredible cars will come with unprecedented VIP access to the team and action on track.”
