The world premiere of the second season of “Peacemaker” is underway tonight in Los Angeles with the cast and DC Studios chief James Gunn walking the red carpet.
At last report, Gunn was working on a treatment for a new film in which Superman would be a major character, but wasn’t going to be a direct “Superman” sequel or a “World’s Finest”-style deal.
Now, during a video chat with THR, he confirms he’s already finished that treatment, which he describes as very detailed:
“I’ve already finished the treatment for the next story in what I’ll call the Superman saga. The treatment’s done, which means a very, very worked out treatment. I’m working on that, and I’m hopefully going into production on that not too far away from today.”
He re-affirms that the upcoming “Peacemaker” season is quite crucial in the overall DCU saga:
“We have the setting up of all of the rest of the DCU in this season of Peacemaker, it’s incredibly important. Lots of guest stars coming up, lots of characters that are going to show up that we’ve already met in Superman, and I don’t think there’s anything I’ve ever done that I love more than this season of Peacemaker.”
Separately and earlier in the day, Gunn was also asked by EW about any further members of his “The Suicide Squad” film coming back for the DC Universe. In terms of Harley Quinn return, and whether he’ll get Margot Robbie back, he says: “That will be revealed down the line”. He does admit now that he’s “always looking for a place to put Bloodsport and figuring that out” referring to Idris Elba’s mercenary character.
The comments come as DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation have premiered the first installment of “Krypto Saves the Day!,” a four-part series of animated shorts with the first shot set to be available on the upcoming digital and physical releases of “Superman” which hits PVOD Friday and disc on September 23rd.
