Lamine Yamal’s 18th birthday party has made headlines for all the wrong reasons after it was alleged that dwarves were hired for entertainment purposes at the Barcelona wonderkid’s big bash.
It’s now been confirmed that an investigation will be launched into the incident following a complaint by the The Association of People with Achondroplasia and Other Skeletal Dysplasias with Dwarfism.
According to EFE, the Ministry of Social Rights has asked the Public Prosecutor’s ffice, the Ombudsman and the Office to Combat Hate Crimes to investigate whether the disability law was violated at Yamal’s party.
The Director General of Disability, Jesus Martin, has also issued a brief update.
“We are concerned that people with money, people with power, believe they can get away with it,” he said before adding: “[We] will not stand idly by in the face of these indications. The law applies to everyone, to the humble and the powerful.
“Let the appropriate investigations be opened, and let action be taken based on the findings.”
The report suggests any sanctions could be in the shape of a hefty fine. Barcelona and Yamal have not responded to the allegations as yet.
