LEWIS COUNTY- We have gotten wind that the New York State DEC is soon expected to announce a new state record Brook Trout that just so happened to be caught in the Adirondacks.
Rumors started circulating last-week, but an online blog report from ‘Big Woods Bucks’ confirms that Benjamin Ferguson, 32, of Croghan, NY was the lucky angler who managed to land one whopper of a Brook Trout – weighing in at 6-pounds and 3-ounces.
The report suggest that the New York State DEC is soon expected to make this development official.
Ferguson says he was fishing with his friend, Shawn Widrick. They were reportedly fishing a pond in the Saint Regis Canoe Area in the Adirondacks.
Ferguson was trolling a Lake Clear Wobbler and a night crawler trailing behind it when he had a massive strike on the end of his line.
To make sure his prize catch was not a Splake, which is a cross breed between a Lake Trout and a Brook Trout, Ferguson took the fish to DEC staff members.
After examining it, the DEC confirmed it was indeed a pure Brook Trout and it was indeed the new state record.
Keep an eye out for a follow up report soon.
