Day 12 of Cleveland Browns training camp took place Monday. Here is our recap of the session.
Cleveland Browns Training Camp Report – Day 12 (8/11/25)
1. Brief Return to Berea: Cleveland had a joint practice in Carolina last Wednesday before their preseason match-up on Friday. After having the weekend off, the Browns were back in Berea today for Day 12 of training camp. Fans are no longer in Berea, but Cleveland’s stay there is short too, as the team will travel to Philadelphia for joint practices on Wednesday and Thursday.
2. QB Updates: Before practice, head coach Kevin Stefanski said that he was not ready to name a starting quarterback for the regular season yet. However, after the second preseason game, he thinks they’ll be ready to decide when they’ll announce the starting quarterback.
As far as other quarterback updates go, rookie Dillon Gabriel was expected to return to 11-on-11 drills on Monday, while being cognizant of his hamstring injury still. Kenny Pickett was still going to remain in just 7-on-7 drills as he continues to get better.
3. Same Mentality: I don’t know how other teams are handling this, but we’re definitely seeing coaches evolve in the way the Browns handle training camp joint practices and preseason games: the starters will see more action during the joint practices, and then the young players will get more work in the preseason game itself. That’s a way to hopefully preserve the health of your key contributors, while still allowing them to get some practice work in against other competition.
4. Red Zone Work: Practice began with 11-on-11 goal line drills, and each quarterback getting two plays. First up was Joe Flacco, then Gabriel with the twos, and Shedeur Sanders up third.
5. Pickett Trying to Make a Stand: Even though he was only taking part in 7-on-7 drills still, Kenny Pickett threw three straight touchdown passes with the ones, seeming to favor that back left corner of the end zone. Here are a couple of highlights of his throws to WR Jerry Jeudy and TE David Njoku:
Apparently, all of the quarterbacks enjoyed that spot on Monday; here is Gabriel tossing a touchdown pass to TE Brenden Bates, who made the one-hand snag:
6. One Minute Drills: Cleveland closed practice with some one-minute, 11-on-11 drills. Flacco and Sanders each had two cracks at it, while Gabriel had one shot. There is definitely some more confidence building in what Sanders can do, though. Even on this snap that was rolled to him, he picked it up and ripped the ball down the middle for a completion:
7. Amped Up: DE Myles Garrett must be amped up for the season to start; here he is wrapping up and lightly tossing RB Dylan Sampson toward the ground:
8. Brownies: WR Luke Floriea was waived/injured, but reports indicate the team hopes to bring him back for their practice squad. … OG Zak Zinter returned to practice. … WR Greg Larvadain had another great grab on a pass from Sanders. … Cleveland continues to use the jet sweep play. … RB Pierre Strong returned to action. … If you’re going by the QB stat tracker from ESPN, the Browns’ quarterbacks combined to go 29-of-40 (72.5%) with 9 touchdowns and 0 interceptions.
9. Next Up: The Browns will play have a joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday (time to be determined).
