With some differences, Battlefield 6 promises to deliver a great experience on all consoles, judging from a recent early comparison based on the game’s open beta.
The comparison, put together by ElAnalistaDeBits, details the two display modes available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, Balanced and Performance, which target 60 FPS and up to 120 FPS, respectively, and highlights the differences between all console versions. As expected, the new entry in the series runs and looks best on PlayStation 5 Pro, with a higher average resolution, more particles and debris during destruction, and longer draw distances. On the other hand, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game aren’t very different, with Sony’s system sporting a slight advantage in terrain and particle quality. For the Xbox Series S version of the game, unsurprisingly, the developer had to make some compromises to maintain the 60 FPS target, and has thus removed all screen space reflections, reduced draw distance, and lowered the quality of lighting and shadows in this version’s single display mode. Despite these differences, Battlefield 6 seems to have been optimized well on all platforms, delivering solid performance across the board.
The Battlefield 6 first open beta session was held over the past weekend, and it was, unsurprisingly, a smashing success, peaking at over 520,000 users on Steam. Although plagued by rampant cheating, the overall consesus is definitely positive, setting the game to become one of the most successful releases of the year when it launches in a few months on PC and consoles.
Battlefield 6 launches on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on October 10. In case you haven’t had the chance to try out the open beta, you can learn more about the game by checking out Kai’s preview.
