HONOR Could Put Tablets To Shame As It Is Testing Out a Smartphone With A Massive 10,000mAh Battery, But Rumor Claims That The Device Will Not Use A Flagship Chipset

The introduction of improved 3nm smartphone chipsets should pave the way for improved efficiency, leading to better battery life, but this specific aspect of the industry is moving at a snail’s pace compared to the silicon-carbon technology wave that has been adopted by Chinese companies in droves. In short, devices sporting these newer cells can flaunt significantly improved ‘screen-on’ time without manufacturers worrying about compromising on the thickness. However, some phone makers are actually tinkering with technology’s limitations, with HONOR rumored to be testing a smartphone with a 10,000mAh capacity, putting Android-powered tablets to shame if it ever releases.

When silicon-carbon battery technology first started getting adopted, it was refreshing to see that capacities in the 6,000mAh to 6,500mAh range became commonplace in mobile phones. Fortunately, the increments did not stop there, with some manufacturers experimenting with products shipping with massive 7,000mAh and even 7,500mAh batteries. Now, as Digital Chat Station points out on Weibo, HONOR is moving towards the upper limit of silicon-carbon technology by working on a handset with a 10,000mAh cell.

Unfortunately, before you get excited that the smartphone in question will be a flagship, the tipster mentions in the post below that it will be a mid-ranger because it will be equipped with MediaTek’s Dimensity 8500. Based on specification details, the Dimensity 8500 will be mass-produced on TSMC’s 4nm N4P process and will sport eight Cortex-A725 cores, plus a Mali-G720 GPU. Additionally, the rumor mentions that the product is in the NPI, or ‘New Product Introduction’ phase, meaning that the device is currently in the concept stages, and it will take some time to materialize.

This crucial detail suggests that HONOR might not stick with the 10,000mAh battery capacity mentioned in the rumor, but we will keep our fingers crossed. Also, the inclusion of a chipset like the Dimensity 8500 instead of the flagship Dimensity 9500 hints that there will be a few more compromises that customers will eventually come across, such as increased thickness, fewer cameras, a lower-tier display, and other cost-cutting measures. Despite silicon-carbon technology’s benefits, it cannot function like magic, and the more manufacturers try to increase the capacity, the thicker the component will get, albeit less bulky than the lithium-ion counterpart.

Thankfully, these experimentations are what will eventually encourage companies like HONOR to think ‘outside the box’ when offering upgrades to customers. Since one of the biggest challenges of smartphones is delivering that legendary battery life, the Chinese manufacturer expects to address this major pain point with a future release.
