On Thursday night, Jimmy Fallon welcomed Greg Gutfeld, Fox News’ resident comedy guy, to The Tonight Show, where, in typical Fallon fashion, he asked a whole bunch of nothing and laughed hysterically at just about everything.
In case you’re lucky enough to be unfamiliar with this guy, Gutfeld is the host of Gutfeld!, a satirical talk show on Fox News where he makes a lot of mid jokes at the expense of immigrants, trans people, and Democrats — think Jon Stewart’s conservative Wario. He appeared on Fallon’s show on Thursday to promote What Did I Miss?, his game show on Fox News. Fallon greeted Gutfeld with a hug when he walked out, then proceeded to gab about how they first met at a mutual friend’s bar in New York about 15 years ago, where Gutfeld said they were both “wasted.” Gutfeld recalled drunkenly wrestling Fallon pretty much as soon as they met. “You look at me, and your eyes just kind of explode, and you run towards me and you tackle me like a giant golden retriever,” Gutfeld said.
In case you were wondering, no, Fallon didn’t ask anything all that substantive of the guy who recently suggested conservatives reclaim the word “Nazi.” Gutfeld did, however, reminisce on his career, which apparently included getting fired from three jobs before getting a show on Fox News. He also said his mom, when watching Fox News, would get “upset because all the women wore short skirts.” “She says, ‘I don’t need to see their you-know-what.’ And I’m going, ‘Mom, other people do,’” Gutfeld recalled.
Also not discussed: the recent cancellation of Stephen Colbert’s Late Show, news that Donald Trump celebrated in the same Truth Social post in which he praised Gutfeld. (Gutfeld also responded with glee, calling Colbert “less popular than shingles” and saying being a liberal “kills your funny bone.”) In a nod of support to his fellow late-night host last month, Fallon showed up to Colbert’s show, and later that day, he said on his own show, “I don’t like what’s going on one bit.” Still, he seemed to really like what was going on with Gutfeld Thursday night. Glad someone had fun.
