Helldivers 2 has been a phenomenal success since its release in early 2024, and it’s only going to get bigger when it jumps into bed with Xbox, too, later this month. While HD2 is a big game, the biggest game on the planet is arguably Fortnite. A lot of players have noticed a lot of similarities between Super Earth and Epic Games’ newest season, and even the Helldivers 2 devs have acknowledged the new Fortnite season feels very “we have Helldivers at home”.

Helldivers 2 devs acknowledge similarities in new Fortnite season

Since the release of the trailer for Fortnite’s newest season, Shock N’ Awesome, a lot of players have noticed similarities with Helldivers 2. Even prominent Fortnite leaker, ShiinaBR, has said everything about the new season “screams Helldivers collab”.

Similarities mostly stem from players believing Epic’s new bugs, The Swarm, Queen, and Bomber, resemble the Terminids from HD2. There’s also emotes and references that look eerily like Helldivers, and even Epic Games’ blog post sounds similar to a Major Order for HD2.

The Fortnite trailer is flooded with Helldivers 2 in the comments, with many replies echoing sentiments such as “Super Earth should deploy some Helldivers for this bug infestation”. With people noticing the similarities, it’s only natural that the developers have been asked about the comparisons.

On Discord, Arrowhead CEO, Shams Jorjani, was asked, “You enjoying the new Fortnite season it seems eerily familiar”. In response, Jorjani acknowledged, “It feels very democratic”. Even though Jorjani is aware of the similarities, he also admitted he does not play Fortnite because “The building does my head in” and he only plays “Helldivers and Battlefield”.

In addition to Shams Jorjani, community manager, Baskinator, was asked about Fortnite’s new season. Baskinator said, “hmmm… it’s giving ‘we have helldivers at home’”.

Regarding whether Arrowhead are concerned it “might affect player numbers,” Baskinator said, “I’m not worried. Fortnite is Fortnite, Helldivers is Helldivers”. The community manager also said, “If the kings of video game drip think our drip is cool enough to… inspire them… then that’s super cool. But our games couldn’t be more different from one another. There’s room for us all at the king’s table”.

It’s interesting to see Arrowhead acknowledge the similarities players are observing and being mostly cool with it. A lot of Fortnite players have called for an official collaboration, but Fortnite stepping into the world of Helldivers 2 is very unlikely as Arrowhead has previously dismissed the idea along with Star Wars. As for Helldivers 2 skins joining Fortnite, now would be the opportune moment, but leakers such as ShiinaBR have pointed out “there’s literally no signs of it anywhere”.
