The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed 20 new cases of Mpox, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 302 as of July 30, 2025.
This follows the announcement of Ghana’s first Mpox-related death on July 22,2025 alongside 23 new infections, which had raised the total number of confirmed cases to 257 at the time.
According to health officials, the virus also known as Monkeypox continues to spread mainly through close physical contact with infected individuals.
Transmission can occur through contact with skin lesions, body fluids, or contaminated materials such as clothing and bedding.
In a public notice, the GHS urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid close contact with individuals displaying symptoms such as fever, body aches, and distinctive rashes.
It also advised the public to report any suspected cases to the nearest health facility.
“Protect yourself and others by avoiding close contact with those showing symptoms, and ensure you report any suspected signs to the nearest health facility,” the statement said.
Although most individuals infected with Mpox recover without serious complications, health authorities have expressed concern following the recent death, particularly for high-risk groups such as children, pregnant women, and those with underlying health conditions.
The GHS said it is working closely with regional health directorates to trace contacts and coordinate a national response, while also stepping up public education campaigns and urging the public to rely on verified sources of information.
