Hulk Hogan never met his grandkids from his daughter Brooke Hogan, before he died on July 24 from a heart attack in Clearwater, Florida.
According to his son-in-law Steven Oleksy, Hulk, who had a strained relationship with Brooke, had no desire to meet their twins, Oliver Andrew and Molly Gene, who the couple welcomed in January.
He first reached out to set up a meeting “about a month and a half after” the babies were born.
“I sent text messages once again to kind of gauge where he was at, but there was no interest,” Oleksy told PEOPLE.
Hulk and Brooke,37, had an estranged relationship two years leading up to the wrestling legend’s death. In 2023, Brooke reportedly requested to be removed from her dad’s will because she “didn’t want to get caught up in a financial battle when he passed.”
However, Brooke is a beneficiary of a life insurance trust her dad put in place and is set to receive a small sum from the policy. She plans to put the money towards her kid’s college funds, according to TMZ.
Leading up to Hulk’s passing, Brooke stayed by his side despite their rocky relationship. She even moved from Michigan to Florida to be closer to Hulk.
“She was there for every surgery leading up to the last two years,” Brooke’s husband Steven told the outlet. “She would fly down on her own dime, take care of her dad, and it just made a lot of sense.” He adds that Brooke “took notes from every doctor” who treated her father.
Oleksy also set the record straight on Hulk perpetuating the narrative that his wife’s two-year estrangement was due to the WWE star’s new marriage.
Brooke did not attend her father’s third wedding to Daily in October 2023. Hulk also did not walk Brooke down the aisle for her nuptials in June 2022, telling Oleksy he “doesn’t do weddings or funerals anymore.”
The lack of communication from Brooke “had nothing to do with his new wife,” Sky Daily, according to Oleksy.
“My wife will say it — it had nothing to do with his new wife. It had to do with the way he treated [Brooke],” Oleksy told PEOPLE.
Hulk died at the age of 71.
