There’s a new The Legend of Zelda game on the way, but not every fan is overly excited about its upcoming release.
Ever since its inception on the NES in 1986 with The Legend of Zelda, the adventures of Link have become one of the most iconic properties in video game history, and each new release is a huge event, well, mostly.
This beloved Nintendo series has provided some absolute classics from A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild, to name a few.
We’ve also had some fun spin-off titles, such as 2024’s The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom on Nintendo Switch, which features Princess Zelda as the lead playable character for the first time in the series.
There’s another spin-off on the way for Nintendo Switch 2, and it’s the follow-up to 2020’s Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, developed by Omega Force of Tecmo Koei’s Dynasty Warriors series.
This year, we’re being treated to Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, developed by Tecmo Koei’s AAA Games Studio and is a prequel to 2023’s The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Earlier this week, an epic new trailer was revealed for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment during a 30-minute Nintendo Direct presentation, and it received a mixed reaction from fans.
“Somehow, 30,000 years later, Fi returns,” replied Medium_Ad_4451 to the Reddit post. Without giving too much away, Fi is a pivotal character in the series who has a strong connection with the Master Sword.
“Just to tell us our batteries are low,” responded Both-Farmer506 when on the topic of Fi.
“Can’t wait for all this fan speculation about Fi to end up pointless, as it turns out it’s nothing more than a cute reference,” exclaimed OsmundofCarim.
“Funny how they had to specifically say ‘canonical events leading into TotK’ after people got burned with AoC,” said Redditor IronArgon.
“Still ‘this winter’. It’s definitely not releasing in 2025,” claimed Boks1RE.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment will be released exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year, probably.
